Croonify

Lyrics Sync Editor

If you've ever tried to make your own karaoke track, you already know the hard part isn't the video—it’s the timing. A good karaoke track needs lyrics that appear at the right time, line by line (and ideally word by word), so the singer can follow naturally without thinking about it.

Croonify includes a lyrics synchronization system that automatically aligns your lyrics to a normal song recording. It then provides an easy timing editor so you can correct edge cases and make the timing feel “human.”

This is not a lyric “template” or a hand-timed project from scratch. The goal is to get you extremely close automatically, and then give you practical tools to finish the last few percent quickly.

How lyrics synchronization works

Croonify uses your provided lyrics and a vocal-focused analysis of the audio to estimate where each phrase is sung. In other words: it listens for speech-like and syllable-like structure in the recorded vocals and maps that structure onto your lyric text.

That mapping is why Croonify requires a normal version of the song that includes vocals. A karaoke/instrumental track usually cannot be synchronized because it does not contain the vocal content that anchors the lyrics in time.

The better the lyrics match what is actually sung, the easier the job becomes. When the lyric text differs from the vocal performance (ad-libs, extra “oh” sounds, repeated refrains that the lyrics omit, etc.), the sync can drift and you may need to adjust it using the editor.

The timing editor

Croonify’s timing editor is designed to be fast and forgiving. The intent is that you should be able to:

You’re not locked into a single “perfect” attempt either. Croonify grants limited regenerations of the video after lyric edits, which is useful for fine tuning the timing and presentation.

Standout features

Most karaoke tools focus on one thing (often just vocal removal). Croonify is built around the full end result: an on-screen karaoke video that is easy to generate and easy to refine.

Guidelines for best results

Use a song file that contains vocals

Croonify synchronizes lyrics by analyzing the recorded voice. If you upload a karaoke track that already removed the singing, Croonify won’t have the information it needs to place lyrics correctly.

Provide lyrics exactly as you want them to appear

Remove annotations, ads, and section labels. If the singer repeats a refrain multiple times, the refrain should appear multiple times in your lyric text. Croonify will attempt to align every word, so missing or extra words can shift the timing.

Expect harder songs to need minor edits

Choral songs, dense harmonies, heavy reverb, and loud background vocals can confuse any synchronization system. Croonify can handle a lot, but the timing editor exists because there will always be edge cases.

Higher quality audio helps

Lower bitrates and aggressive compression can smear or mask the vocal information that synchronization relies on. Most commercially available audio files are fine, but if you have options, choose higher bitrate sources.

FAQ

Do I have to time the lyrics manually?

No. Croonify generates timing automatically. The editor is for corrections and fine tuning, not for starting from scratch.

Why do you need the version with vocals?

Because Croonify uses the recorded singing to locate where syllables occur in time. Instrumental-only files usually cannot be synchronized reliably.

My lyrics drift out of sync later in the song—why?

Usually this happens when the lyric text differs from the performance (missing repeats, extra words, or ad-lib phrases). Fixing the lyric text and regenerating often resolves the drift.

Does Croonify support languages other than English?

Yes, Croonify works with many languages and character sets. However, languages differ in how well generic phonetic mapping captures sung pronunciation. If a language performs poorly, use the Support link and I’ll look into improving it.

What does Croonify output?

Croonify outputs a karaoke video file with lyrics on screen. It is designed to be a small, practical file size for sharing, while still supporting 1080p rendering.
